This 19th Century Indian tulwar is from Rajasthan and is in excellent condition with only minor age related pitting and tarnish.

The heavy steel hilt is of baluster form with long squared languets, quillion with button terminals and a very large pommel disk (9cm diameter) incorporating a radial sun disk and skull crusher spike.

The 76cm draw back blade widens towards the point and has thin double fullers on both sides. It retains its fighting edge and the last 28cm of the top draw-back edge is also sharpened.

The blade is marked with European style unit markings as well as a geometric mark at the ricasso and two sun-like disk marks further along the blade suggesting the tulwar is from Bikaner in Rajasthan. The European markings were used to imply that the blade was of similar quality to those from Europe.

The wooden, leather covered scabbard is in good condition with the stitching intact and only minor scuffs to the leather consistent with its age and use.
