This bayonet is in excellent condition and highly collectable. Although usually referred to as the "M1888 Lee Metford bayonet," the mark 2 was made exclusively for use with the Lee Enfield rifle.
The 11.75 inch / 30 cm double edged blade is nicely marked on the ricasso with a crown above ER (Edwardus Rex) and the date 3 ’02 (March 1902) making its production in the latter part of the South African Boer War. The obverse ricasso is marked with “EFD” for the Enfield factory, the British War Department broad arrow, bend test and Enfield inspection stamp. The spine also bears two inspection stamps.

The wooden grip is firm and showing minimal age related wear with two brass rivets. The pommel is stamped 246 above the oil hole.

The bayonet is complete with its original black leather scabbard in excellent condition. The scabbard is stamped with unit markings on the steel furniture.

The original leather frog is in over-all good condition but is showing its age. The buckle strap has broken on one side and is fragile.
