M1860 Heavy Cavalry sabre, made for the Italian army between 1860 and 1864 by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum (S&K) of Solingen, Germany.
The 35 inch / 89 cm curved blade is in almost mint condition and bears a partial S&K stamp on the ricasso. The formidable blade is 31 mm wide and sharp with a fighting edge that shows signs of use.
The heavy-duty steel guard has lost its original nickel plating but is bright and clean with no rust or tarnish. The hilt retains its original leather grip and has a single strand of twisted brass wire.
