Rare Swiss Model 1918/55 bayonet.
Only 13,300 of this M1918/55 bayonet were produced. The M1918/55 differs from the standard M1918 by having a more robust grip and is an overall heavier bayonet.
The 30cm double-edged blade terminates in a spear point and is in near mint condition with a factory sharpened edge. There are scratch lines along the blade caused by the scabbards internal retaining springs. This is quite usual.
The ricasso is marked by the maker, “Elsener Schwyz.” The obverse ricasso is blank and the crosspiece bears an inverted triangle and the Swiss cross.
The bayonet was unissued as there is no serial number present. Serial numbers were marked on the crosspiece and were matched with a rifle.
The wooden grips are in excellent condition and the polished steel furniture is bright with minimal signs of age. The press-stud locking mechanism works perfectly.
The scabbard is also in great condition and retains its original black finish with minimal age and wear.
