This British 1822 pattern, George IV infantry officer’s sword was made between 1822 and 1830, during the reign of King George IV.
The 822mm pipe-backed blade terminates in a period service sharpened quill point. The blade is etched with a panel on either side, depicting the crowned and laurelled Royal cypher of King George IV.
The blade is in good condition with age-related wear and small patches of shallow pitting. The edge was period service sharpened.
The 1822 pattern brass Gothic guard has a crisp working folding section and bears the Royal cypher of George IV. The barred guard retains a good amount of its original gilt finish. The shagreen wrapped grip is in good condition with use-related wear and the copper wiring is intact and tight. The blade is firm in the hilt.
This is a good, clean example of a fighting officer’s, 200 year old pipe-backed sword.
