British WW1 British Guard’s Regiment P1907 Enfield Drill Purpose Bayonet.

The 41cm single edged blade is in excellent condition and is marked on the ricasso with the British broad arrow, bend test and Enfield inspection marks. The reverse ricasso bears an indistinct crown over GR (Georgius Rex) above 1907 and the date mark for March 1915 as well as “EFD” for the maker.

The wooden grips are good and the spring mechanism works well. The pommel is clearly marked for the Guards Depot at Pirbright, famous as the place in which members of the elite Guards Regiment undergo bayonet battle training. The end of the pommel is also marked “DP,” denoting drill purpose.

The bayonet comes complete with its original 1915 issue black leather scabbard with blued steel mounts and round frog stud. The webbing frog is the P1908 and has clearly been attached to the scabbard for some considerable time (probably original to the bayonet) as the bayonet’s spring stud has worn a perfect round hole in the first layer of webbing and there is fraying around the frog stud. These frogs are quite scarce nowadays.

This is a very rare collectors’ bayonet. While the P1907 bayonet itself is easy to find, one that is marked for the guards and was purposefully for training WW1 Recruits is incredibly rare.
