This Burmese Dha has a very sharp, 492mm single-edged blade. The bevelled spine is 9.4mm thick at the shoulder with a distal taper down to 0.8mm at the point. The blade is 24mm at the base, widening to 30.5mm before the hatchet point.
The sharp blade is in great condition with forging marks at the base and a small area of shallow pitting below the spine on the forte.
The blade is held firmly in its wooden hilt. The hilt is wrapped with platted grass or plant fibre and has a copper bolster and a pommel capped with a semi-precious stone, probably malachite or jade.
The sword is complete with its wooden scabbard. The scabbard is in good condition and is decorated with bands of woven plant fibre. A faded cord is wrapped around the scabbard and would have been used to “wear” the sword. The sword sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a great example of a Burmese Dha.
