This is the wartime production Mk II bayonet that India produced for the SMLE No1 MkIII series of rifles. The blade is shorter than the standard British Pattern 1907 and un-fullered.
These bayonets were made for use in the jungle conditions of the Burmese and Pacific theatres.
The 11.78 inch / 30 cm single edged blade is also sharpened for the first 2 inches / 5 cm of the upper edge. The blade is in good condition and retains almost all of its original blueing. The blade is stamped on the ricasso with 11* above N.W.R over 43, making its production in 1943 by North West Railways of India.
