This Swiss Model 1899 bayonet is in near mint condition. Depending on who one speaks to, this bayonet can be described as either the M1899 or the M1911. As the bayonet first saw service in 1899, I personally feel that this is the more accurate designation. Interestingly, even the Swiss authorities used both the 1899 and the 1911 designations for this bayonet as it was used with the Schmidt-Rubin Models 1896/11 and also the 1911 rifle and carbine

The 30 cm single edged blade has a deep fuller on both sides and terminates in a spear point. The fuller has an arresting bar on both sides, which is there to help keep the bayonet in the scabbard. The ricasso is stamped with the maker’s name, “Waffenfabrik Neuhausen”. The obverse ricasso is blank.

The polished steel crosspiece bears the issue number and the finial is stamped with the Swiss cross. The steel hilt furniture is bright and clean and the press-stud locking mechanism works perfectly. The wooden hilt scales are in excellent condition.

The bayonet is complete with its original blued steel scabbard. The scabbard is in excellent condition and retains its leather frog strap.
