The Model 1905 bayonet was made for the U.S. M1903 Springfield rifle, re-designated the M1905 rifle in 1917. The bayonet also fits the U.S. M1 Garand rifle that was brought into service in 1942. The original, long bladed M1905 bayonets were produced from 1906 to 1922 by the Springfield Armoury and Rock Island Arsenal.

This bayonet was made at the Springfield Armoury in 1911. Early, full length (16 inch/ 407mm) bladed M1905 bayonets are rare today as most were recalled and shortened for re-issue during WW2.

The 407mm single-edged blade has a flat spine above a deep single fuller and terminates in a double-edged spear point. The blade is double-edged for the final 145mm and retains its original factory edges. The blade is in excellent, near mint condition and retains its original black finish with only minor scabbard wear.

The ricasso is stamped with the Springfield Armoury SA and the US Ordnance Department flaming grenade logo above the production date of 1911. The obverse ricasso bears the “US” government mark and the serial number 489214.

The walnut grip scales are in excellent condition and are fixed firmly to the tang. The facing scale is marked with an X and the number 17. The press-stud mechanism is in crisp working order. The bird-beak pommel retains its original black finish.

The bayonet is complete with its M-3 pattern composite scabbard. The throat is stamped with the US Ordnance Department flaming grenade. The scabbard is in excellent condition and the bayonet locks tightly and draws smoothly.

This is a near mint condition example of a rare, unaltered Pre-WW1 Springfield Armoury M1905 bayonet.
