This American WW1 1913 Pattern bayonet for the P14 rifle is in near mint, unissued condition.

The excellent 433mm blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and a rounded spine. The point is needle sharp and the blade has its factory edge with no additional attempts at sharpening. The blade shows minor manufacturing scratches and scabbard wear.

The blued ricasso is stamped with the pattern date of 1913, the production date of ‘9 ’17 (September 1917) and the Remington maker’s mark. The obverse ricasso bears the “flaming grenade” over “US” ordnance stamp, the eagle head and the number 20.

The cross guard and pommel retain their original blueing and the wooden hilt scales are in good condition with a great patina. The press-stud locking mechanism works perfectly. There are traces of minor rust on the cross guard and pommel.

The bayonet is complete with its original leather scabbard, which is also in excellent condition. The throat and chape retain their original finish with minor spots of tarnish and the blackened leather is firm and undamaged with the stitching intact and strong.

The leather is stamped “MFW” and “GF.” The scabbard’s steel throat and chape are stamped “GF.”

This P1913 bayonet and scabbard are in as close to mint condition as it is possible to find, making it a rare example of a relatively common Great War bayonet.
