As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British 1856 Pattern Yataghan Sword Bayonet. #2603012
This British pattern 1856 sword bayonet was made for the Model 1853 Enfield infantry short-musket. As well as being issued to British units, these muskets and bayonets were sold in large numbers to both the Union and Confederate armies during the American Civil War. This bayonet is a typical example of one of these, as it does not bear British military issue or War Department ownership stamps.
The 574mm yataghan blade has a flat spine and broad single fuller on both sides. The recurved blade is double-edged for the last 120mm. The blade was service sharpened. The absence of any maker’s details and British government stamps indicates that this bayonet was produced (probably in Germany) for export. The main export market for these bayonets at this time was America, for use in the American Civil War.
The blade is in good condition and is free from rust with only a couple of small patches of almost imperceptible shallow pitting that has been cleaned.
The iconic steel crosspiece with cockscomb and button finials is in good condition with minimal age-related tarnish. The spine of the tang is flush with the interior of the muzzle ring identifying this bayonet as being the 1856 model, as opposed to the 1858 model, which has a small step up to the muzzle ring. The press-stud and external spring locking mechanism work perfectly. The leather grip scales are in good condition.
The bayonet is complete with its original leather scabbard with steel mounts. The steel furniture is bright with speckled shallow pitting. The leather is in overall good condition. The stitching is intact and the seam strong. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly in the scabbard.
This is a British pattern bayonet made in Germany for the export market and may have seen service during the American Civil War.
