As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British 1859 Mk II Pattern Naval Cutlass bayonet. #2403006
British Pattern 1859 Type II Naval Cutlass Bayonet for use on the 1858 Enfield .577 Naval Rifle.
This cutlass bayonet was made by the German company A. & E. Holler and is one of only 13,000 produced by them. Most of the 13,000 made were used by the Royal Navy, but some were sold to the United States and were used during the American Civil War. This example is one of those sold to America.
The 680mm un-fullered blade has a flat spine and single-edge. The blade terminates in a spear point and has a 240mm upper false edge. The blade is in very good condition and was sharpened for active service. The forte is stamped with an oval cartouche containing the worn maker mark "A. & E. H.," the stamp of A. & E. Holler of Solingen Prussia who used this trademark between 1854 and 1885.
The blade has a pale patina with some small darker spots. There are some small contact nicks to the cutting edge and the edge remains sharp. The absence of British government ownership marks and inspection stamps indicate that this cutlass bayonet was not used by the Royal Navy and was instead made for export to America.
The steel bowl guard is in very good condition. The chequered leather grips are in similarly good condition and the external spring catch works perfectly.
The cutlass bayonet is complete with its original black leather, steel mounted scabbard. The leather is in excellent condition with the stitching intact and tight. The steel locket and chape are in great condition and have a pleasant pale patina.
This is an excellent example of a rare British Pattern 1859 Type II naval cutlass bayonet in great condition.
