Iconic British Pattern 1907 bayonet made by the Wilkinson Sword company.
The 436mm, single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was service sharpened. The blade is in excellent condition. The ricasso is marked with the pattern date 1907, below which is stamped Wilkinson Pall Mall. The obverse ricasso bears a bend test stamp.
The lack of a manufacture date, Royal cypher and inspection stamps is an interesting feature of this bayonet. It is possible that it was made for the export market as Wilkinson suppled several countries with this pattern bayonet.
The crosspiece, muzzle ring and pommel retain their original polished finish and are in excellent condition. The press-stud catch is in perfect working order. The pommel has a clearing hole which became a feature of the P1907 from 1916. The polished steel pommel is stamped with the number 838. The grip scales are in good condition and are held firmly in place by two original screws.
The bayonet is complete with its original leather scabbard with a round frog stud. The scabbard is in excellent condition. The steel locket and chape retain their original polished finish. The throat of the locket is stamped with the number 838.
This is an excellent example of the iconic World War One Enfield rifle bayonet, made by the Wilkinson Sword Company.
