The .75 calibre Army Land Pattern musket, nick-named the “Brown Bess” and its accompanying bayonet were introduced in 1795 and were the standard British infantry weapons until 1840. This bayonet was made by John Gill between 1803 and 1817.

The bayonet has a total length of 528mm comprising a 100mm long socket with an internal diameter of approximately 25mm at the back and 24mm at the front joined by a steel elbow to the 406mm triangular blade. The bayonet is in excellent condition and the face of the blade is stamped on the forte with the maker’s name, “John Gill” above a crown mark that looks to contain the letter E.

This is an excellent example of a Napoleonic Wars period Army Land Pattern, (Brown Bess) socket bayonet.
