As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British East India Company 1841 Pattern Sappers & Miners Sword Bayonet. Heighington. #2608008
This is a rare British East India Company (E.I.C.) 1841 pattern Sapper and Miner’s sword bayonet. Designed to fit the E.I.C. Sapper’s and Miner’s Carbine. The bayonet fixes horizontally on the side of the musket as opposed to underneath the barrel as with earlier models. The base of the socket includes an aperture for the type-F pattern catch. The rim of the socket has a sighting notch at right angles to the knuckle bow. These bayonets were made in the UK and supplied to the E.I.C. by several English makers.
The 560mm single edged blade has a flat spine above a broad fuller and terminates in a double-edged spear point. The last 120mm of the top edge is sharpened and the blade retains its service edge. The blade is of the earlier style with the fuller running almost to the point. The blade is in great condition and free of rust with patches of cleaned and very shallow corrosion.
The spine is clearly stamped with the British maker’s name; HEIGHINGTON. The forte bears an E.I.C. inspectors’ stamp of a stylised letter Q (looks more like an italicised 2) over the number “4,” which dates the bayonet to 1850.
This is a great example of a rare British East India Company sword bayonet.
