This Georgian Royal Navy officer’s dirk dates to around 1820.
The 151mm double-edged blade has a flattened diamond cross section and spear point.
The blade has been blued and gilded, with a typically Georgian floral motif.
The gilded oval guard bears a pattern of oak leaves, above which is a gilded and balled collar. The ivory grip is beautifully turned and is in good aged condition with closed fissure lines. The ivory grip is finished with a turned ebony pommel. I am unsure as to whether or not this is original to the dirk but I suspect that it is a later replacement.
The dirk is complete with a replacement leather sheath with gilded fittings.
