As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
The L3A1 bayonet was designed for use with the British SA80 Rifle and is a one-piece forging with a hollow, ribbed hilt that fits snugly over the muzzle of the 5.56 mm NATO calibre SA80 Rifle.
The 178mm single-edged blade has a flat spine over a short single fuller and terminates in a clipped point. The blade is double-edged for the final 40mm and incorporates a wire-cutting edge and aperture for fitting to the wire cutter addition to some scabbards. The first 65mm of the edge include an almost vestigial serrated section. The blade is in excellent condition and retains its matt finish.
The integral cast hilt is in good condition and retains its black finish. The connection/locking mechanism is in good working order.
Initially, two scabbards were available for the SA80 bayonet. One that included a saw, wire cutter and a sharpening stone. The other (the same scabbard body) lacked these features but retained the apertures and fixing points allowing them to be added if required. It was soon accepted that these additional attachments were unlikely to be used and therefore not cost effective. Most SA80 scabbards are found without them.
The scabbard for this bayonet is inserted into an olive drab nylon over-scabbard/full-length belt frog. The outer scabbard/frog is in good condition and is dated 1988 with the NATO stock number.
This is an excellent example of a British army issued L3A1 bayonet for the SA80 rifle.
