Exceptionally good condition British P1842 bayonet for the Lovell's catch musket.
The triangular blade is 435mm with a 77mm socket. The internal diameter of the muzzle socket is 23mm.
The blade is deeply stamped with a crown over the number “7” above either a unit marking or makers name. What remains looks like “3 HT.” There are two additional stamps which look like the War Department arrow and a half moon respectively.
The socket has the remnants of a rack, musket or unit marking but this is unreadable. This is an incredibly good example of a rare early Victorian socket bayonet produced from 1842 until 1853.
