British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet made in June 1916 by Robert Mole of Birmingham. Mole produced only 60,000 1907 pattern bayonets, many of which never came home from the war. Mole P1907 bayonets are rare today.

The 430mm single-edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was factory sharpened. The blade is in very good condition with two small patches of cleaned, shallow pitting on one side.

The ricasso retains its blueing and is marked with the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 6 ’16 between which is stamped MOLE.

The obverse ricasso bears a bend test stamp, War Department arrow and three Mole factory inspection stamps. An additional date of 1927 is also stamped on the obverse ricasso with an accompanying Enfield inspection stamp.

The crosspiece, muzzle ring and pommel retain their blued finish and are in good condition. The press-stud catch is in perfect working order. The pommel has some small use-related dings. The grip scales are in good condition with use-related wear and staining.

The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard with a round frog stud. The scabbard is dated 1916 and is in excellent condition. The leather is stamped with the makers details, Geo. Bussey & Co. LTD and the date, 1916. This is a rare scabbard maker. The leather is also stamped with the British war department arrow, crowned inspection mark, 1916 date and the letter N, indicating that the scabbard was originally issued for British Royal Navy service.

The stitching along the seam is intact and strong. The steel locket and chape retain their original blueing with some wear. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.

This is a very good example of a rare MOLE made P1907 bayonet with a rare George Bussey made scabbard.
