This WW2 period Royal Navy seaman’s clasp knife was made by the Sheffield based firm of Harrison Brothers & Howson.
These knives were designed to facilitate various tasks aboard ship. The knife consists of a folding marlinspike, a blade, and a shackle opener. The marlinspike was used for rope work, splicing, and knotting tasks and the flat, screwdriver-like shackle opener was used for opening and closing metal shackles.
The knife is stamped on the ricasso with the makers’ details, Harrison Bros & Howson. Sheffield.
This Jack knife is in good condition and very robust. Until recently, it was being used as a gardening knife!
