This bayonet is the short-tanged version of the Czech VZ-58 bayonet made in 1978 for use with the Czech VZ-58 assault rifle.
The phosphatised 174mm single-edged blade has a flat spine above a deep single fuller. The blade has a 45mm upper edge and terminates in a spear point. The ricasso is stamped with a 3 above the number 52645. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a cancelled number.
The blade is in near mint condition and is unsharpened, retaining its original factory squared edge.
The locking mechanism is crisp and in excellent working order. The composite grip scales are in excellent condition and are secured with two rivets.
The bayonet is complete with its tan leather scabbard. The scabbard is in excellent condition.
The back of the scabbard is stamped with K6, crossed swords maker mark and the production date of 78 (1978). Below this is stamped OTK3.
This is a near mint, unissued short tang variant of the Czech VZ-58 assault rifle bayonet.
