These high-quality yataghan sword bayonets were manufactured in Germany for the Danish Model 1867 rolling block rifle.

The 555mm recurved blade has a single edge and a thick flat spine above a deep fuller. The spine narrows sharply to form a 160mm upper false edge and the blade terminates in a spear point. The blade is un-sharpened and is in excellent, near mint condition.

The ricasso bears the German makers’ details, Gebr (Gebruder) Weyersberg, Solingen. The obverse ricasso is hand engraved with the word “Germany.” The same engraving appears on the scabbard locket.
The centre of the bright steel crosspiece is stamped with a possible unit designation, 26B 765. The obverse is stamped with the serial number of the rifle to which the bayonet was issued, 54792. The black leather grip scales are in very good condition and the birds-beak pommel is stamped with the Danish crown ownership mark. The external spring locking catch is in perfect working order.

The bayonet is complete with its steel mounted black leather scabbard. The locket and chape are bright and clean. The top of the locket is engraved with “Germany.” I am unsure as to the reason for this. The leather is in very good condition and the stitching is intact. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.

This is a near mint example of the mid-19th Century Danish sword bayonet.
