As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
French Model 1842 Yataghan Sword Bayonet. Chatellerault 1856. #2603009
This French M1842 Yataghan sword bayonet made at the Chatellerault armoury in 1856 for issue during the Crimean War (1853-1856). These sword bayonets were used with several variations of French carbine rifle. The M1842 is a formidable bayonet, a far more robust forerunner to the often-encountered M1866 Chassepot bayonet.
The heavy 574mm yataghan blade has a flat, T-section spine above a long, single fuller on each side and tapers to a double-edged spear point. The spine is engraved with the Chatellerault armoury details, pattern designation and the production date of February, 1854. The blade is in excellent condition. The blade was service sharpened.
The ricasso bears the stamp of the Chatellerault armoury director, Lieutenant-Colonel Jean Baptiste de Mecquenem, a crowned letter M within an oval. Lieutenant-Colonel Jean Baptiste de Mecquenem was Director of the armoury from July 1855. The second stamp is that of the armouries’ Reviseurs, Francois Antoine Schutz, an oval containing a star above the letter S. Schutz was a Chatellerault Reviseurs from July 1853. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the numeral 13.
The steel crosspiece has a slightly hooked, rear facing quillon and a coxcomb on the muzzle ring. The steel bears a serial number, 994 over-stamped on various inspection marks. The obverse of the crosspiece is stamped with the letter G.
The ribbed brass grip is in excellent condition and the external spring catch is in good working order. The blade is firm in the hilt.
The bayonet is complete with its rolled steel scabbard. The scabbard is in good condition and is marked on the ball finial and at the throat. The top of the scabbard is stamped with an anchor, indicating French naval issue. The blade sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is an increasingly hard to find Crimean War period French M1842 yataghan sword bayonet in great condition.
