German WW2 M1884/98 MkIII Bayonet
This example was made in 1942 by Alexander Coppel Gmbh.
The 250mm single edged blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and is in good condition. There are some faint sharpening marks and very shallow pitting towards the needle-sharp point. The blade has been sharpened and the point slightly re-profiled to improve penetration.
The blade is marked on the ricasso with the maker’s three letter dispersal code, “fnj” and the date 42 (1942). This dispersal code was assigned to Alex Coppel from 1941 to 1944. The obverse ricasso bears the stamp “1924” over h.
The steel pommel bears two inspection stamps. The press stud is in good working order.
The Bakelite grip scales are in excellent condition.
The steel scabbard is in good condition. Some mild pitting caused by prolonged contact with the leather frog has been cleaned and the scabbard re-painted. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a good example of the famous German WW2 K98 bayonet with armoury done combat modification to the point.
