German WW2 M1884/98. Also known as the K98, as it was designed for use with the Karabiner 98 kurz, bolt-action rifle. The K98k rifle was the standard service rifle used by the German Wehrmacht during WW2.
This bayonet was made in 1941 by Richard Herder AG of Solingen.
The 250mm single edged blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and is in excellent condition retaining its original black finish with minimal scabbard wear. The blade retains its squared factory edge.
The blade is marked on the ricasso with the maker’s dispersal code, clc, and the manufacture date, 41. This dispersal code was used between 1934 and 1944. The obverse ricasso bears the stamp 9165 over an italicised letter a.
The blackened steel pommel bears two inspection stamps. The working press stud bears the same marking. The Bakelite grip scales are in good condition and are held firmly in place with the original screws.
The black steel scabbard is in excellent condition. The front of the scabbard is marked above the frog stud with the number 53 over c. The back is marked at the top with the wartime letter code, crs, denoting the maker Paul Weyersberg & Co. and the date 44. The ball finial of the scabbard bears an inspection stamp.
This is an excellent condition example of the famous German WW2 bayonet.
