German WW2 M1884/98. Also known as the K98, as it was designed for use with the Karabiner 98 kurz, bolt-action rifle. The K98k rifle was the standard service rifle used by the German Wehrmacht during WW2.

This bayonet was made in 1940 by Mundlos AG of Magdeburg.

The 252mm single edged blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and is in excellent condition retaining its original black finish with minor scabbard wear. The blade retains its squared factory edge.

The blade is marked on the ricasso with the maker’s mark, MUNDLOS. The obverse ricasso bears the serial number 7. 570 over the letter b. The spine bears the date stamp, 40 (1940).

The blackened steel pommel bears two inspection stamps. The working press stud bears the same marking and so too does the flash guard on the back of the grip. The Bakelite grip scales are in good condition and are held firmly in place with the original screws.

The bayonet is complete with its non-matching black steel scabbard. The scabbard was made by Richard Herder in 1938 and is in excellent condition. The front of the scabbard is marked above the frog stud with the number 9497 over h. The back is marked at the top with the name, RICH. A. HERDER above the date 1938. The ball finial of the scabbard bears an inspection stamp.

This is an excellent condition example of the famous German WW2 bayonet.
