This M1904 Mauser-Vergueiro rifle bayonet was made by Simson & Co., Of Suhl, Germany between 1904 and 1909. Only 75,000 were produced.
The 280mm single-edged blade has a flat spine and long single fuller. The blade terminates in a spear point and is in good condition and retains its blued finish. The ricasso is stamped with the maker’s details.
The cross-piece and pommel retain their blueing with mild age related wear. The pommel is stamped with the serial number B7805. The press-stud mechanism is in good working order.
The wooden grip scales are secured in place by two screws. The scales have age and use related dings, marks and wear. An X has been scratched into one of the scales.
The bayonet is complete with its blued steel scabbard which is in excellent condition. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
