Swiss Model 1918/55 bayonet issued with the K31 Carbine.
Only 13,300 of this M1918/55 bayonet were produced. The M1918/55 differs from the standard M1918 by having a more robust grip similar to the large M1914 bayonet. The M1918/55 is an overall heavier bayonet than the earlier M1918.
The 30cm double-edged blade terminates in a spear point and is in excellent condition with a factory sharpened edge. There are scabbard scuffs on either side of the medial ridge caused by being drawn and sheathed. The ricasso is marked by the maker, “Waffenfabrik Neuhausen.” The obverse ricasso is blank.
The polished steel crosspiece bears the serial number of the K31 carbine that it was issued with and the flattened quillon is stamped with a circle and the Swiss cross.
The wooden grips are in good condition with age related wear and the polished steel furniture is bright with minimal signs of age. The press-stud locking mechanism works perfectly.
The scabbard is also in great condition and retains its original black finish with some age and wear.
These Swiss bayonets are exceptionally well made and quite scarce.
