As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
This beautiful late 18th/early 19th Century Ottoman sword dates to around 1780-1820.
The 724mm curved blade has a thick, flat spine above a broad fuller that runs almost to the point. The blade is double-edged for the last 170mm and retains its fighting edges. The blade is in good condition with small patches of cleaned pitting and tarnish.
The ornate pistol-grip hilt has horn scales secured to the tang with brass pins. The intricately decorated crosspiece has a central flower motif with double languets and bud quillons. The leaf and bud motif is continued on the backstrap and belly of the hilt. The hilt is in good condition and the blade is firm.
The vine, leaf, flower and bud motifs are continued on the beautifully decorated scabbard mounts. The scabbard is in good condition. The leather has age-related wear and crazing to the original finish but remains strong and the sword sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard. The top ring mount is absent and the locket and chape require partial re-braising/soldering of the seams.
This is a great fighting-man’s sword from the Ottoman Empire and dating to the turn of the 18th/19th Centuries.
