19th century naval fighting sword infantry short sword 19th Century Infantry/Navy Fighting Sword #3 19th Century Infantry/Navy Fighting Sword #4 19th Century Infantry/Navy Fighting Sword #5 19th Century Infantry/Navy Fighting Sword #6
This short, double edged fighting sword dates to the 19th Century. It is hard to put an exact date on it as brass hilted side arms were adopted throughout Europe from the early 19th Century onwards. It is equally difficult to identify which branch of the military may have used the sword. Its length makes it an ideal weapon for close combat, whether it be on deck, the front line or in defence of an artillery battery.

The un-fullered 468mm broadsword blade is without maker's or armoury marks. The double edge has been service sharpened and is in good condition with mild, age related patina.

The solid, ribbed brass hilt has long straight quillions with ball finials and an 18th Century style ball pommel. The blade is firm in the hilt and retains its original leather washer.
