British Constabulary Hanger Police Sword Victorian Police Hanger 19th Century Short Sword British 1850 Police Sword #5 British 1850 Police Sword #6 British 1850 Police Sword #7
This hanger was standard issue in the 19th Century for members of the British constabulary and prison wardens. The presence of a locking catch dates it to around 1850 to 1860.

The 570mm broad, curved blade has a long single fuller on both sides and a flat spine with false edge and terminates in a spear point. The blade is in good condition with minimal age related tarnish and use marks.

The beautifully patinaed solid brass guard has a “D” shaped knuckle bow with stepped oval pommel and is engraved on the quillion with the rack or weapon number “547.” The quillion incorporates a press stud catch for locking the hanger into the scabbard. The catch is in good working order.

The wooden hilt is wrapped in leather which shows use related wear and has a dark patina.

A fine example of an early Victorian British enforcement short sword.
