As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword. Hill 1912-1915. Near Mint. #2607001
This is a fantastic, near mint example of a World War One infantry officer’s sword made by H. Hill of Sheffield. Hill was an independent sword maker operating between 1912 and 1915, known for his high quality, robust swords.
The 825mm single-edged blade has a slightly rounded belly and spine with a short central fuller on both sides. The blade is double-edged for the last 130mm and terminates in a spear point. This is a very robust blade in near mint condition.
The blade is etched with foliate scrollwork above and below the Georgian crown and Royal Arms. The obverse is etched with foliate scrollwork and the crowned cypher of King George V.
The ricasso is etched with the maker’s mark of H. Hill, Sheffield. The obverse ricasso is etched with a Damascus Star proof mark with the word PROVED stamped in the centre.
The silver-plated guard is in excellent, near mint condition and bears the royal cypher of King George V. The front of the guard has a large domed bulge. The shagreen wrapped grip is in excellent condition and the three strands of twisted wire are intact and tight.
The sword is complete with its brown leather covered field service scabbard. The scabbard is in very good condition with age-related marks. The stitching is intact and tight. The leather shoe of the scabbard is a professional replacement. The sword sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly in the scabbard.
This is a great example of a scarce, Hill-made WW1 1897 pattern officer’s sword.
