As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
This rare 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) regimental pattern sword was made by S. J. Pillin in 1888.
The regimental pattern was approved by Colonel John Fryer of the 6th Dragoon Guards on the 7th December 1877.
The 885mm single-edged blade has a broad fuller below a flat spine and terminates in a double-edged spear point. The blade is double-edged for the final 250mm and was service sharpened. The blade is in good condition with a pale patina and spots of shallow pitting. The etching, while clear, is worn.
The blade is etched with seven, ribboned battle honours dating from 1704 to 1880; Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenarde, Malplaquet, Sevastopol, Delhi and Afghanistan 1879-80. Between the battle honours is the crowned regimental badge of the 6th Dragoon Guards Carabiniers. The obverse of the blade is etched with foliate scrollwork and arches enclosing the royal crown and cypher of Queen Victoria. The forte is etched with the Royal Arms.
The ricasso bears a brass proof stud used by the maker, S. J. Pillin. The obverse ricasso bears the ghost of what may be the owner’s initials in calligraphy. The spine of the blade is stamped with the Pillin serial number, 97118, dating the sword to 1888.
The regimental pattern guard is of the scroll-hilt design and incorporates the regimental badge, the numeral 6 enclosed in an oval containing the name; Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) over crossed carbines on a knurled background. The guard is in great condition. The backstrap has a knurled thumb rest and pommel. The pommel has a dent on the top. The shagreen wrapped grip is in good condition with some small losses to the shagreen. The blade is firm in the hilt.
The sword is complete with its original scabbard with twin suspension rings. The rings are probably replacements as they are not braised closed. The scabbard is in good condition with small dings at the bottom and a hairline crack at the corners of a crease. The scabbard retains its wooden liner and the sword sheaths and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a good example of a hard-to-find Victorian 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) regimental pattern sword; the blade etched with the regimental device and battle honours.
