As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British Early 1846 Pattern Royal Navy Officers Sword. Kenning Circa 1850. #2609003
This British 1827/46 pattern Royal Navy officer’s sword dates to around 1846-1850.
The 725mm single-edged blade is slightly curved and has a flat spine above a deep single fuller. The blade has a 200mm upper edge and was service sharpened. The blade is etched with foliate scrollwork beneath trefoil arches and shows the Royal Arms of England, a lion and unicorn rampant with the motto, “Dieu et mon droit.” The obverse of the blade bears St. Edwards’ crown and the Royal Navy’s fouled anchor motif. The blade is clean and bright and in good condition with small patches of pale tarnish.
The ricasso bears the cutler’s details; Kenning, Little Britain. London. The obverse ricasso is etched with a geometric design and lacks the brass proof stud found on post 1850 swords.
The solid half-basket hilt is in good condition. The bowl of the guard bears the crown and fouled anchor of the Royal Navy. The inner folding section is of the early, non-locking type. The mane of the highly detailed lion head pommel extends the full length of the back strap. The knuckle bow of the guard extends from between the lion’s teeth. The white shagreen grip is in excellent condition and the twisted wire wrap is intact and tight.
The brass mounted black leather scabbard is original to the sword and is in excellent condition. The sword sheaths and draws well and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a good example of a Victorian, Crimean War period Royal Navy officer’s sword.
