This is a rare example of a bandsman’s sword that pre-dates the introduction of the regulation pattern in 1856. The sword dates to late in the reign of King George III, around 1820.
The 527mm slightly curved blade has a flat spine and single edge. The blade is in excellent condition, bright and clean with only a few specks of shallow pitting.
The brass hilt has a lion head pommel with acanthus mane and “S” shaped crosspiece with disk quillons. The centre of the crosspiece has acanthus style decoration.
This is an excellent example of a rare bandsman’s sword.
