Beautifully made and sturdy British or European sword cane from the turn of the 19th/20th Century. The cane has a natural root ball that feels great in the hand and has a lovely warm amber patina.
The 600mm forged steel blade has a shallow fuller on the spine and deeper fullers on each side of the blade giving it a “Y” section for most of its length, with the last 100mm being of apple seed section, having a sharp single edge and no fuller. This is a rather unusual shaped blade, clearly hand forged and with a partial maker’s name on the ricasso. I can only make out a few of the letters so have not been able to identify the maker.
The blade is bright and rust free with a pleasing silver/grey patina. The blade is fixed firmly within the root ball handle and fits snugly into the body of the cane. The cane itself has a white metal collar with mild tarnish (it will polish off), and a brass ferrule.
The cane is in excellent condition with minor marks and scuffs commensurate with its age.
