This fine George V infantry Officer’s sword was made by Edward Thurkle, London, indicated by the brass proof slug.
The 1892 pattern thrusting dumbbell blade is 82.5 cm /32.5 inches long and 25 mm wide at the shoulder.
The blade has a deep central fuller on each side and rounded edges which taper down to a double edged spear point and is etched with foliage and laurel wreaths surrounding the crowned Royal coat of arms on one side and a George V Royal cipher on the other.

The sword wears an 1854 pattern Gothic brass 4 bar guard which bears the Crowned Royal cipher of George V and has a brass cross hatched back strap and domed oval pommel. The fish skin grip is in good condition and the twisted brass wire is tight although incomplete.

The blade is without rust or blemishes and is firm in the hilt.
This is a very nice and well made sword.
